Last weekend, I had the chance to capture something loud, wild, and unapologetically American — the Burnout Nationals July 5th event. Nothing says Independence Day like engines redlining, tires exploding, and a haze of smoke thick enough to block out the sun.
This wasn’t just another show — it was a full-on tire massacre. The kind of high-octane energy you don’t just watch, you feel in your chest. I was on the ground up close and personal shooting it all, racing against the smoke to catch every split-second moment before it disappeared.
But the best part? That was just the warm-up.

Burnout Photography Quick Tips:
Manual Focus Is Your Lifesaver: Once the smoke rolls in, autofocus is toast. Pre-focus where the action will be and let it rip.
Shutter Speed = Freeze the Fury: Shoot at 1/1000 or faster to capture those high-torque moments clearly.
Hazy = Intense: Embrace the chaos. Don’t be afraid of a little blur and smoke — it’s part of the mood.
Keep Your Gear Alive: Use a hood or filter, and clean your lens often. You’ll be surprised how much tire dust builds up.
Shoot Reaction Shots Too: Fans, drivers, pit crews — their energy tells the story just as much as the burnout does.
